NOUVELLE DÉVASTATRICE: Rhino est mort (enfin, presque...)

Il n'aura pas fallu longtemps pour que l'achat de Rhino par Time/Warner entraîne la mort du fameux label de réédition. Ce que plusieurs présageaient déjà, avec le renvoi du fameux ingénieur de mastering Bill Inglot en mai 2007.

Bien triste nouvelle. C'est 50 personnes qui travaillaient avec un indéniable talent et un grand amour de la culture pop qui viennent de perdre leur emploi.

EDIT: La direction de Time/Warner nie la disparition de Rhino, mais plusieurs sources prétendent que nous assistons simplement à un "extreme makeover" corporatif. Comme l'affirme un ex-employé, "Just don't call it Rhino anymore, cause it isn't."

En tout état de cause, le renvoi de la vice-présidente et A&R Cheryl Pawelski, force vive du label selon les insiders du milieu de la réédition, est lourd de sens.

Cheryl pulled my nuts out of the fire so many times at Capitol/EMI, Concord and Rhino it's not funny. In other words without her you would have never heard the many Nat King Cole's, Peggy Lee's, Judy Garland's that I remixed or the DCC Gold Steve Miller's, Badfinger's, McCartney's, etc. Just this year she helped us with Alice Cooper, J. Geils Band, Yes, Deep Purple, etc. and indirectly the Vince Guaraldi Trio Greatest Hits Gold CD.. She is awesome.

Hope she grabs a new gig soon. She is a walking encyclopedia of music and the music world needs her.
